[Links of the Day] 01/11/2018 : multi-platform, multi-architecture CPU emulator framework , Periodic Table of Data Structures, Model-Based Machine learning book

  • Unicorn : a qemu offshoot offering a lightweight multi-platform, multi-architecture CPU emulator framework.
  • Periodic Table of Data Structures : the author try to express the different data structure used in computer science using a universal model. Once completed, formalized and validated this could be invaluable help for accelerating decision making processing for software architecture design. Now if somebody could do the same for software project management...
  • Model-Based Machine learning book : this book is trying to teach you how to think like a statistician to solve some nontrivial analytical problems. Not many new books cover this skillset, and just for this alone, this book is a must-read for anybody using machine learning.

Links of the day 09 - 06 - 2015

Today's links 09/06/2015 : Local algorithm for highly scalable architecture, Artic time series Database on top of #MongoDB, KVM Forum

  • Local algorithms : Very good survey of algorithms with the very interesting property that they runs in constant time, independently of the size of the network. Which makes then extremely attractive for large scale distributed systems.
  • Artic : a high performance datastore for numeric data on top of mongoDB. It supports Pandas, numpy arrays and pickled objects out-of-the-box, with plug-gable support for other data types and optional versioning. They have wild claim in regard performance and scalability but until we get a proper time series benchmark out there it still hard to compare time series solutions.
  • KVM forum 2015 :  Schedule of this year KVM forum. Interesting Bits: Real time stuff , some live migration with DPDK and running 1k guests per host.

Links of the day 22 - 05 -2015

Today's links 22/05/2015:  #IaaS #cloud magic quadrant, Qboot lightweight firmware, #openstack state
  • Cloud Magic quadrant : Gartner magic quadrant is out and the result is without any real surprise...
  • Qboot : nice effort from the Paolo Bonzini ( Qemu lead ) and amazing technical skills ( last and first commit is less than 24h old!), but it feels like a knee jerk reaction to the  in  Intel Clear Linux project. Qboot   deliver a minimal x86 firmware that runs on QEMU and, together with a slimmed-down QEMU configuration, boots a virtual machine in 40 milliseconds on an Ivy Bridge Core i7 processor. However i think that while all these solution are technically great they miss the point, I'll try to detail this in a future blog post. Almost forgot the github repo is here.
  • State of the stack : Openstack in all its glory , 2015 version. What really worries me is the last slide last lines: OpenStack is not specific code or APIs, it’s: Community, common values, and common governance. It should be about product , stability and robustness, I can see the big tent syndrome written all over, aka too many clown in there.

Links of the day 08 - 01 - 2015

Today's links 08/01/2015 : Slim down #Qemu in Go, #BrainFuck , Architecture analysis, Data driven #Culture

  • NoVM : lightweight type 2 hypervisor ( qemu) implemented in go
  • Brainfuck optimization strategies : when you really want to get the best out of your brainfuck :)
  • Panda : open-source Platform for Architecture-Neutral Dynamic Analysis using QEMU whole system emulator, and so analyses have access to all code executing in the guest and all data.
  • Data Driven : Creating a Data Culture book
